Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Dr. Haviva Malina, co-founder and Medical Director of Keta Medical Center.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business:
Dr. Malina: We provide physician-led, evidence-based ketamine therapy for depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, with a focus on patient safety. Most of our patients receive Spravato (esketamine) which is FDA-approved and covered by most commercial insurance companies, and Medicare.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Dr. Malina: Our clinic in Westfield is our 7th location, but we have been providing physician-led ketamine mental health care across New York and New Jersey for several years - our first location in Oradell, NJ opened in 2021.

We founded Keta to expand access to evidence-based, FDA-approved mental health treatments. Over the years, we’ve supported over 1000 patients and work closely with local providers, therapists, and healthcare organizations across the region.

Opening our Westfield location is a natural extension of our commitment to meeting growing community needs and making care more accessible closer to where people live and work. We look forward to becoming an active, long-term part of the Westfield community and continuing to support mental health care locally.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Dr. Malina: As an ER physician, I saw too many patients suffering without relief. After witnessing ketamine’s rapid, life-changing impact, I co-founded Keta Medical Center to expand access to evidence-based mental health care.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Dr. Malina: The most common advice we give patients is that there is hope - even if other treatments haven’t worked. Healing doesn’t have to be faced alone.

At Keta, we emphasize that ketamine treatment is not a single moment, but a supported safe and guided process. We guide patients through every step, from pre-treatment preparation and education to treatment day support and post-treatment maintenance.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Dr. Malina: The most satisfying part of our work is seeing real change in patients’ lives and hearing directly from them about how supported they feel throughout their care.

Many patients come to Keta after years of struggling. Watching them feel safer, regain hope, and experience rapid relief - and knowing our team helped create that environment - is deeply meaningful. We’re especially proud when patients recognize not just the treatment itself, but the compassion, professionalism, and care of the people behind it.

  • “I’m currently at the Oradell location and I wanted to comment on how great the staff is, in particular the team that’s here tonight. Having the right people for a session makes a huge difference in my comfort level and ability to relax. This group is professional but approachable. Kind but not overbearing. On top of things. They project confidence and care. Good people helping vulnerable people find their way.” - Keta Patient
  • “I urge you to consider ketamine therapy and do it with a team that puts compassion and safety first. As a patient and an anesthesiologist, I am happy to be an advocate for Keta Medical.” - Jim Ellwood, MD, Keta Patient
  • "They saved my life. Wonderful facility. Beautiful souls." - Seth M.

These moments remind us why we do this work and reinforce our commitment to safe, physician-led, patient-centered care.

Patch: How would you say your business distinguishes itself from the others?
Dr. Malina: Keta Medical Center is distinguished by its physician-led, safety-first approach to ketamine mental health care and its focus on accessibility and patient support.

We offer in-person or Zoom psychiatric care and psychotherapy for patients who need it, and all treatments are supervised by board-certified Emergency Medicine physicians and administered by registered nurses, ensuring a high level of medical oversight. We offer both IV ketamine and FDA-approved Spravato® (esketamine), allowing care to be tailored to each patient’s clinical needs.

Accessibility is central to how we operate. Keta offers evening and weekend appointments and accepts most commercial insurance plans as well as Medicare. Our team handles insurance billing so patients can focus on healing, not paperwork.

With seven locations across New York and New Jersey, patients are not tied to a single clinic and may receive care at the location most convenient to their home or work. This combination of medical rigor, flexible access, and comprehensive support sets Keta apart.
