New Costs For Some Westfield Drivers: See Changes
New ownership took over the sites in multiple lots.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Charges for electronic vehicles are no longer free throughout the Township of Westfield.
Jolt, the new owners of the eight stations in the community, have started to charge for the services after they bought the sites previously owned by Volta/Shell in 2025.
Residents can now download the Jolt app to use the stations and pay the appropriate fees.

The move to a cost model "is increasingly common within the EV charging industry," the Town said.
This marks the first change in ownership after Westfield partnered with Volta in 2021 for the free stations in lots 1, 2, 4, and 7.

Volta was acquired by Shell and had planned to stop services and remove the stations across the country before they were bought by Jolt.
Now, the company is continuing to build on their partnerships with municipalities in the United States.
