Nurse Is Set For Life After Purchasing Winning Lottery Ticket at Union County Store

RAHWAY, NJ — A registered nurse from Trenton is set for life after purchasing a winning New Jersey Cash4Life lottery ticket from a Union County store.

Dawn Jones worked three jobs and had been playing the lottery every Monday since 2012. On Aug. 8, her lucky day finally arrived.

Jones won the $1,000 A Day for Life prize, which is the top-prize in the Cash4Life game by matching all five white balls and the Cash Ball drawn with the numbers on her ticket.

She purchased her ticket at Krauszer’s Food Store, 978 St. Georges Ave., in Rahway, which is located near her a medical facility where she was working to provide long-term acute care services to others.

That night, Jones checked the draw results on her phone's lottery app and couldn't believe her luck. She called her daughter to confirm and also a co-worker to also reconfirm her findings.

“My heart feels like it's coming out of my chest, I may be having a heart attack,” Jones said to her friend after the number were confirmed.

Her friend reassured her that she would be fine and told her to “just breathe.”

“I considered calling out rich – but I know that a lot of people depend on me, so I went to work,” Jones said.

She said she plans on continuing to work for now as loves nursing.

With some of the winnings, Jones plans to support her daughters through their college education, should they choose to attend and pay off her own student loans.

She also believes the money will make her and her children's lives easier and check off some things on her bucket list.

The store owners in Rahway also lucked out as they will receive a $30,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
