Pedestrian Hospitalized After NJ New Year's Eve Crash

The pedestrian was unconscious after being hit on a Union County street, a city official said.

ELIZABETH, NJ — A pedestrian remained hospitalized Thursday evening after being hit by a car on a street in Elizabeth on New Year's Eve, a city official said.

The unidentified person was hit about 9 p.m. as they walked along North Broad Street, said Ruby Contreras, the public information officer for Elizabeth.

Surveillance footage captured the person walking along North Broad Street toward Parker Road when they were hit, she said.

Elizabeth police found the person unconscious and with a cut to the right eyebrow, Contreras said. The victim was taken to University Hospital for treatment and remained unresponsive, she said. The victim also was administered narcan, she said.

The driver stayed at the scene, she said.
