The Westfield Area Y Devilfish Long Course (LC) Swim Team competed at the SVY July Independence LC Invitational at Rutgers University, July 8-10. Twenty Devilfish teammates achieved "best times" in multiple events. Swimmers placing in the Top 16 include the following (by age group): 11-12 Boys: Stefan Crigler, 9th place 100m Breast; Lucas Fan, 8th place 100m Breast, 9th place 200m Back, 15th place 50m Back; Nick Youssef, 13th place 200m Back, 15th place 100m Fly. 13-14 Girls: Caroline Basil, 6th place 200m Back, 10th place 100m Back, 13th place 200m IM, 16th place 200m Free; Erika Daniel, 6th place 100m Fly; 13-14 Boys: Stephen Husch, 6th place 200 Back. 15&Over Boys: Dan Jones, 13th place 100m Fly; 15&Over Girls: Abby Pires, 14th place 100m Breast. Five Devilfish LC team records were broken. Shannon Sokolow set a new LC team record for 15-18 Girls 200m IM, Matt Daniel broke the 15-18 Boys 200m IM record. Basil reset the 13-14 Girls 100m Back and 200m Back LC team records, and Husch set a new Devilfish standard for 13-14 Boys 200m Back.
