Property Taxes Went Up In Union County: See The Latest Breakdown
The statewide average also rose in 2025.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — The average property tax bill rose in 2025 by nearly $500 year-over-year, boosted by stats from some of the highest municipalities in the state that were found in Union County.
According to a new report from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), the statewide average reached $10,570 in 2025. This is the second year in a row that the total has topped $10,000.
Union County jumped from an average of $11,528 to $12,019, good for fifth highest in the newly released numbers.
Essex County led the way with $14,460, followed by Bergen County ($13,992), Morris County ($12,259), and Somerset County ($12,082).

On a municipal level, City of Summit residents topped the chart at an average of $19,697, followed by Westfield ($18,940), and New Providence ($16,228) to round out the top three.

The numbers account for funding towards infrastructure, open space preservation, health services, libraries, and school-district budgets.
Available Relief
Programs like ANCHOR, Stay NJ, and the Senior Freeze afford residents relief in direct property taxes from the State.
New Jerseyans can still apply using a combined application for 2025.
