Blue skies set the perfect backdrop for tonight's 11th Annual Downtown Westfield 5K & Pizza Extravaganza.
"It's the calm before the storm," joked Downtown Westfield Corporation's executive director Sherry Cronin at 5 p.m. about the short-to-non-existent lines at the check-ins. "It's very organized."
It didn't stay quiet for long as nearly 2,700 runners turned out to take part in the "pizza race." Seven hundred and fifty pizzas fed the hungry masses with 250 supplied by , 250 from and 250 from .

Cronin said the DWC was still receiving calls late into last night from runners who wanted to take part in the event.
Taking first place was Chris Croff, 23, of Montclair, who crossed the finish line in 15:29.42. On his heels was Westfield's own Ryan Scrudato, 20, who completed the 5K in 16:11.46. Coming in third was Adam Gruchacz, 23, of Three Bridges. Caroline Williams, 20, of Westfield, was the first woman to finish the race with a time of 18:23.88.
