See Where Westfield High School Ranks According To U.S. News
U.S. News has just released its rankings of the best high schools by metro. See how our community did.
WESTFIELD, NJ - U.S. News has just released its annual ranking of high schools by metro area, and a number of high schools are included among the top 300 in the New York City and Trenton metro areas.
Separate from the publication's annual ranking of the best high schools in the country — published in April — the best high schools by metro area rankings released on Wednesday analyze how schools compare to each other in the same region. The New York City metro statistical area includes parts of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Westfield Senior High School ranked at 131 on the metro area list. Westfield High School ranked 53 out of 350 in New Jersey and 1,225 out of the more than 20,500 ranked in the country as part of their last report on best high schools in the country.

Westfield also made the news recently with their SAT scores. Westfield ranked 21 out of 307 schools on the list for reading and writing with a score of 612. In math, students ranked 22 with an average of 623. Combined the test-takers ranked 23 with a total of 1235.
U.S. News says it used the same methodology to compile the metro-area rankings as it did for the national rankings. Metros areas were matched to their corresponding core-based statistical areas as defined by the government. The U.S. Census Bureau says metro areas and micropolitan areas (which have a population of between 10,000 and 50,000) are collectively referred to as core-based statistical areas.

"We've heard from students, parents and school officials that they're interested in seeing how their school compares with others in the community," Robert Morse, chief data strategist at U.S. News, said in a news release. "With these new rankings, residents in more than 900 metro areas nationwide can see which local schools are succeeding at educating and graduating their students."
