The Records: Johnson came into Thursday's game with a 4-3 record with Westfield at 1-5. Being in different conferences and state groups, this is the only match-up between the two schools this season. Johnson was looking to snap a three game losing streak.
The Final Score: 4-1 Johnson. The Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Cyndi Wilson's sacrifice scored senior Victoria Martin. The game was silent offensively until the fourth inning when Westfield's Julia Criscuolo singled and later scored when Nicki Schmeider grounded out. The game became a pitching duel for most of the afternoon and would stay that way until the Crusader's bats woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning. Shortstop Cyndi Wilson walked to lead off the inning. Pitcher Alison Meagher walked as well. Gianna Cucollo blasted a triple and drove home Wilson and Meagher to make the score 3-1. The next hitter was Veronica Zatko who doubled and drove home Cucollo. Westfield had the chance to come back on in the top of the seventh inning but was unable to produce any runs.
The Hero: Freshman Cali Chambliss stood out going 4 for 4 with all singles at the plate today. Freshman Elena Scarano pitched a complete game for the Blue Devils and struck out two. Senior Nicki Schmeider drove in the only run.

The Quote: “I think we played a pretty good game,” said Blue Devils coach Caitlin MacDonald. “I was really pleased with our defense. Elena Scarano pitched great today. It was just that one big hit and that is going to happen and unfortunately our bats weren't able to recover from it. We had eight hits today but we just couldn't get a rally going.
What's Next: The Blue Devils (1-6) travel to Cranford Friday before hosting Pasack Valley Saturday and Roselle Park Monday.
