WESTFIELD, NJ - From The Addams Family to the New Yorker, the cartoons of Charles Addams offer a lighter side of darkness that have charmed audiences for decades and now 25 youths will have the chance to see their works displayed alongside his.

As part of the Town’s upcoming AddamsFest, Westfield middle and high school students
now have the chance to display their own Addams-inspired cartoon alongside some
Addams originals.

“We’re thrilled to bring the contest back this year in an expanded and re-imagined
way,” said Councilwoman and Chairperson of AddamsFest Dawn Mackey. “With entries now open to all high school and middle school students, we are so excited to see what the young talent in Westfield will create in the spirit of WHS alum Charles Addams.”

Mackey notes that the top 25 submissions will be part of The Chas Addams & Friends
Art Exhibit at the James Ward Mansion from Oct. 15 through Oct. 23, which will also include some of Addams’ original works not seen in last year’s exhibit.

Back this year, by popular demand, will be “Dudley,” the life-sized Addams original, drawn during his Westfield childhood, which spent almost a hundred years on the second floor of a barn on East Dudley Avenue.
