The Jolly Trolley Converts to The Office
The favorite local restaurant/bar changes names, menus and more.
The times, they are a-changin’, and that’s become true for one of Westfield’s most popular hangouts, The Jolly Trolley Bar & Grill, which took down its sunny yellow awnings at the end of August and replaced them with black-and-red signage bearing the restaurant/sports bar’s new name: The Office Beer Bar & Grill.
Located next to the Westfield train station and the town fire house, The Jolly Trolley was built in 1966 and is the flagship location of CB Holding Corp., the parent company of Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse, Bugaboo Creek Steak House, and The Office Beer Bar & Grill. Although The Jolly Trolley’s menu drew from those of the other restaurants in its corporate family, the Trolley had maintained its own identity and had developed a loyal following of bar patrons and family diners for over 40 years.
“The Jolly Trolley was a single operation,” said Samuel Nicholas Borgese, President and CEO of CB Holding Corp. “We currently operate Charlie Brown’s in Scotch Plains, only a short distance down North Avenue with the same product offering. After reviewing this single environment, we decided to convert The Trolley to The Office because the restaurant has all the physical attributes of that concept.”

Westfield’s new Office location now features the same menu as the rest of its locations, which is slightly different than The Trolley’s. Most notable is the discontinuation of The Trolley’s salad bar and prime rib offerings. New beer selections are also being served, which may mean the loss of some of The Trolley’s rotating draughts microbrews. A few décor renovations are also being engineered over the next few months, including fresh coats of paint, new booths and plans to open up the bar area.
While there have been no staff changes initiated, former Trolley employees have been outfitted with a brand-new uniform: jeans and black shirts, which is a little more relaxed than the Trolley wardrobe.

Jolly Trolley gift certificates will still be honored at The Office, and all of the bar’s themed, holiday and daily promotions, which are simultaneously run across all Office locations, will continue to run seamlessly throughout and after the conversion.
While it might be hard for some to say goodbye to The Trolley, which is undoubtedly a Westfield institution, patrons can seek solace in the fact that the regular staff will still be there to pour a cold $2 pint and cheer on group trivia nights every Wednesday just behind a different name.
