Westfield Approves $1.1M To Buy New Fire Truck, Refurbish Older Truck

The Westfield Town Council unanimously approved two resolutions for the Fire Department at its Tuesday meeting.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A new fire truck will be purchased and an older fire truck will be refurbished for just over $1.1 million in Westfield.

Councilman David Contract said the decision to refurbish one truck would be a "significant dollar savings" to the Town.

The Westfield Town Council passed two resolutions on Tuesday to authorize the purchase of a new fire pumper engine for $899,000 and the reconditioning and refurbishment of one of their existing fire engine trucks for $282,000.

Both contracts were awarded to Absolute Fire Protection, 2800 Hamilton Boulevard, South Plainfield.

"I think this is a really good example of being creative in spending tax dollars wisely," said Contract at the meeting. "We could of, as a Finance Committee, say let's just buy two fire trucks. But working together we said, 'That is a big cost. Is there a different, better way to get us to the goal?' "Which is to make sure we have the right equipment to take care of Westfield’s needs."
