Westfield High School Sophomore Dies, Community Mourns

School counselors are available for all students or staff in response to the tragic death of Carthoris "Carter" Uziel.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield High School community is mourning the death of sophomore Carthoris “Carter” Uziel, who died on Sunday.

"Words cannot convey the grief we feel in the Westfield Public Schools community," Superintendent Margaret Dolan sent in a letter to parents Tuesday. "This tragic loss touches us all and we extend our condolences to Carter’s family."

School counselors are available for all students or staff to discuss their feelings about this tragedy. Dolan also offered a link to a helpful article titled "Death and Grief: Supporting Children and Youth" for parents who want to discuss this matter with their child at home. The link can also be found on the district website under the Parent Resources tab.

Parents are advised to contact their child’s guidance counselor with any concerns.

"Our staff will remain vigilant in watching for signs of distress as well," Dolan stated.
