"The Westfield Police and Fire Departments are closely monitoring the storm," Westfield said in an alert Saturday, "and the Downtown Westfield Corporation has advised all businesses to dismantle all outdoor dining items in anticipation of high winds. PSE&G has advised that they are preparing for the possibility of high winds that can cause flying debris and bring down trees and power lines."

While some may consider flash floods just an inconvenience, these floods have proved fatal to drivers (sometimes trapping parents and children) and people near even small streams.
Severe storms are becoming more frequent. In fact, Hurricane Elsa in July 2021 was the earliest E-named storm in modern weather history.
