Westfield Lacrosse Falls to West Essex 8-5

Westfield lost a hard fought battle 8-5 to West Essex on Friday at Kehler Stadium.

Westfield fell to 3-4 Friday at Kehler Stadium. The Blue Devils lost to a West Essex squad 8-5 in a gritty battle against their highly talented opponents. West Essex (3-3) has recently lost 11-5 to #5 ranked Immaculata and lost 4-2 to #2 ranked Summit. This loss was yet another loss by Westfield to a quality opponent in the state's upper echelon of competition.

The game started off as a defensive battle, with a scoreless first quarter. Mike Devita scored a goal early the in second quarter to break the tie, but West Essex answered with two quick goals just before halftime, despite the stellar effort of Westfield goalie Jeff Laforge.

West Essex scored a mere thirty seconds into the second half and took a 3-1 lead. Westfield battled back but despite a solid 11 save performance from goalie Laforge, their comeback effort fell short and Westfield lost 8-5. Devita finished with one goal and Jack Allen piped in two for the Blue Devils.

Westfield's will look to get back on track Monday against New Providence (3-2). The game starts at 4 p.m. and will be held at Kehler Stadium.
