Westfield Middle Schoolers Have A “Fit Food Fight”!

Westfield Middle Schoolers Have A “Fit Food Fight”!

Chris Giglio, a sixth grade student at Roosevelt
Intermediate School (RIS) won the fourth annual Fit Food Fight recipe contest held on April 9, 2014.  The contest, sponsored by Chartwells School
Dining Services, challenged middle school students from both Edison
Intermediate School (EIS) and Roosevelt Intermediate School to create a healthy
and delicious lunch entrée for elementary students.  The winning entrée was chosen from a field of
8 recipes submitted by middle school students and was based on taste,
originality and appearance. Judging was conducted by elementary school students
Lucas Buonopane, Grade 3, McKinley School; William Fischer, Grade 5, Washington
School; Nora McHugh, Grade 1, Franklin School; and Elena Pinho, Grade 2,
Tamaques School.

Chartwells  awarded Chris
a $100 Visa Gift card for his recipe “Crunchy Chicken Wrap”. Second place
winner Henry Shapiro, Grade 6 from EIS, received a $50 Visa gift card for his
“Honey BBQ Turkey Tacos” recipe and third place winner, Tucker Siegel, Grade 7
from RIS, took a $25 Visa gift card for his recipe “Cultural Confusion-Asian
Pasta Tortilla Bowl”. All students who submitted recipes received a free student
lunch. Chris’ winning entrée will be featured at lunch in both middle schools
and will appear on the June elementary school lunch menu.
