Westfield Mom Bakes Up Cookie Business In Her Home

Kristie Mass can bake and design pretty much anything on a cookie for all types of events through her business Peapod Cookies in Westfield.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A Westfield local and mother of twin girls is baking up a storm right here in town.

Kristie Mass started her business, Peapod Cookies, in 2011, but her love for baking began well before that.

“Every since I was a kid I would stay with my mom all the time around Christmas to make all sorts of stuff,” Mass said. “We would bake everything.”

From there, her love of baking transferred into a love of art. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and began working in the fashion industry. But her heart wasn’t in it.

“I hated the fashion industry, it was horrible,” Mass said.

On her free time, Mass would bake and bring in cookies for co-workers, family and friends. Using her artisitc talent, Mass would create cookies out of any design and characters.

“I found out I loved it so much,” Mass said. “The cookies allow me to draw and paint so it’s like a combination of the two things I love.”

Mass then launched Peapod Cookies on Etsy in 2011. She ran it for a few years before taking a break to raise her twin girls, Lucine and Eloise. She moved to Westfield around the same time and when the girls were old enough to go back to school, Mass relaunched her business inside her home.

“I bake out of my home mostly after the kids go to bed,” Mass said. “I am usually up to 2 a.m. baking. It allows me to have my own quiet time and it relaxes me. It puts me in this weird meditative state.”

Now her business is becoming well-known in and around the Westfield area. She creates cookies for all types of occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, engagement showers and more.

She most recently launched a color-your-own cookie for kids to enjoy at parties.

Mass loves to create anything and everything, so she’s always looking for a challenge.

“My favorite type of order is when they ask me to customize it and let me have creative control,” Mass said.
