WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield is moving to designate 625 Westfield Avenue as a historic landmark under a proposed ordinance that would also modify the town's zoning map.

David Gordon and Kathy O'Gara applied to the Westfield Historic Preservation Commission to have their property designated as a historic landmark, according to the ordinance.

Jacqueline Brevard, who represents the Westfield Historic Preservation Commission, said the homeowners "happily wish to reaffirm their desire to historically designate their home," at the March 10 Council meeting.

"We love our home, and yet we feel grateful to live in a town that wants to preserve some of these beautiful old homes," said O'Gara.

The Historic Preservation Commission adopted a resolution on Dec. 15, 2025, recommending that the Town Council approve the application for historic preservation designation of 625 Westfield Ave.

The ordinance states that the mayor and Town Council agree the property meets the criteria for local historic designation under the Town of Westfield's Historic Designation and Preservation Ordinance and New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law Section 40:55D-26.

The introduction of the ordinance was approved at the March 10 meeting.
