Westfield Primary Election Results 2017

WESTFIELD, NJ — The New Jersey primaries on Tuesday had a pretty low voter turnout with only about 14 percent showing up to the polls in Union County.

A total of 47,668 ballots were cast out of the 320,260 registered voters in Union County.

Locally in Westfield Township there were no contested primary races with one - 4 year Mayor seat; one - 4 year 1st Ward Councilman seat; one - 4 year 2nd Ward Councilman seat; one - 4 year 3rd Ward Councilman seat; and one - 4 year 4th Ward Councilman seats up for grab.

Here are the vote totals for Westfield municipal candidates:

• Michelle W. Brindle, Dem Mayor - 1,695
• Andrew K. Skibitsky, Rep Mayor - 763
• Linda S. Habgood, Dem 1st Ward Councilman - 463
• Sam Della Fera, Rep 1st Ward Councilman - 206
• Michael J. Dardia, Dem 2nd Ward Councilman - 374
• James J. Corcoran, Rep 2nd Ward Councilman - 188
• David M. Contract, Dem 3rd Ward Councilman - 380
• David Oliveira, Rep 3rd Ward Councilman - 182
• Dawn Mackey, Dem 4th Ward Councilman - 440
• Keith Loughlin, Rep 4th Ward Councilman - 180

The Union County Sheriff was a contested race with two democrats vying for one - 3 year term for county sheriff.

Democrat Peter Corvelli of Kenilworth bested Gail Smith Alexander of Plainfield for county sheriff. Corvelli received 81.35 percent or 22,463 votes while Alexander got 18.60 percent or 5,136 votes.

Marc A. Krauss of Springfield was the only Republican vying for a sheriff spot.

The county freeholder race was also uncontested with three - 3 year term seats open.

• Angel Estrada, Dem - 25,026
• Christopher Hudak, Dem - 23,861
• Angela R. Garretson, Dem - 24,004
• Patricia Quattrocchi, Rep - 6,194
• P. Mark Martini, Rep - 6,198
• Peter B. Lijoi, Rep - 6,064
