Westfield Rec Offers Summer Camps and Activities

With summer right around the corner, it's time to think about how to make the most of vacation.  has a wide range of offerings for children and adults.

The following is a list of camps and classes offered this summer:

BASEBALL: Join Coach Sloan & players for some great tips to improve your game! (fields #2/3). Offered to ages 8 to 13 - Monday-Thursday from 9:00a-12:00p. (Friday-rain date). Weeks offered: July 9-12; OR July 16-19 Fees: $90/week Equipment needed: sneakers/cleats, glove, water. 

BASKETBALL: Coach Neil Horne, WHS 9th Grade Basketball Coach and Varsity Players will educate campers in individual, group, and team instruction. For kids 3rd thru 7th grades. Offered June 25 -June 28. (9:00a-12:00p). Fee: $90. Location: WHS Varsity Gym Equipment needed: good sneakers, water. 

FOOTBALL: Our popular flag football camp is a half day camp designed as an intro to football. Teaching skills of passing, receiving, running with the ball, blocking etc. Join Coach Hancock and WHS players. For ages 8-14. Location: . Fee: $90/week. Equipment needed: water & sneakers/cleats.

Offered Monday-Thursday from 9:00a-12:00p (Friday-rain date). Weeks offered: July 23-26; OR July 30 –Aug 2. 

FIELD HOCKEY: Join Ioanna once again to improve your skills, learn new ones and go over the rules of field hockey!
Fee $80. Location: to be determined. Time: 9:00a-12:00p. Equipment needed: mouth guard, goggles, shin guards, sneakers/ cleats & water. Grades: 3-8

Dates: Mon. July 16 to Thurs July 19 (rain date: Fri 7/19) 

TENNIS: Ages 3-14 @ Tamaques Park Pee Wee /Hot Shots: $90 ($80 by 6/1)
Level 1,2 3: $150- ($140 by 6/1)
Adults: $85 ($75 by 6/1)

Camp Times: Levels 1,2,3—9:15a-12:15p. Pee-Wees –9:15-10:45a. Hot Shots-10:45a-12:15p

TENNIS– Adult @ Elm Street Tennis Courts
Our Adult “mini-camps” are offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays Thurs/Friday reserved as rain dates. Camp times: 6:00-8:00pm
Sessions: July 10-11; July 24-25; OR August 7-8. Times: 6:00-8:00PM Fees: $85/session. ($75 by 6/1). Save $10—register early! 

WRESTLING: Join , WHS Varsity Wrestling Coach, to learn the latest moves and techniques! Equipment needed: wrestling shoes, Headgear, shorts/t-shirt. & Water Bottle.
Held Monday-Thursday from 9:00a-12:00p. Fee: $90/week.

Dates: July 30-Aug 2 (Grades 2-5), or Aug 6-9 (Grades 6-8). Location: WHS Wrestling Gym. Entrance on Trinity Place. 

VOLLEYBALL: WHS Varsity Coach, Bev Torok, will help campers in grades 6-8 master fundamentals and gain valuable experience. All ability levels welcome. Time: 12:30 to 3:30pm.
Equipment: sneakers, knee pads, water. Fee: $90.

Dates: June 25,26,27, & 28 Location: WHS VARSITY GYM. 

BOWLING: A summer bowling league will be held on Monday mornings at 10:00am. This 8-week program starts 7/9 thru 8/27 for ages 5 to 12yrs. The weekly cost of $7.00, payable AT Linden Lanes, includes: 2 Games of bowling, rental shoes & lightweight balls, instructional assistance, & a trophy awards program.

Obtain a registration form on our website or in the Rec Office. (No discount available for this camp.) 

GOLF CAMP: Learn a lifetime sport with PGA Teaching Pro, Bill McCluney. Sessions will focus on the complete education on the golf swing, care of the course, and playing safely and expediently.

Grades 2-9. Location: Scotch Hills Country Club, Scotch Plains. Choose a TIMESLOT: 9:00-11:00am OR 11:00-1:00pm OR 1:00-3:00pm.

Choose a WEEK:
June 25-28 OR July 16-19 OR July 23-26 OR Aug. 6-9 OR Aug 13-16. Held Monday through Thursday (Friday-rain date).

Please Note: 1:00-3:00pm for AUGUST Camps are not available.

Fee: $140 per week, per timeslot. (No discount available for this camp.) 

SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM

June 27 through August 8

Overview: The Summer Playground Program is open to Westfield residents only. The program is held at the local elementary schools and Tamaques Park. Playground locations are: Franklin, Jefferson, McKinley, Tamaques, Washington, and Wilson Elementary Schools. The Teen Program, “Teen Scene,” will be offered at Tamaques Park. The playground schedule is tentative, so please consult individual playgrounds for up to date weekly schedules.

PROGRAMS REQUIREMENTS- HOURS –FEES:

Elementary Program: Resident children completing Kindergarten to complet- ing 5th grade. Mon-Thurs 9:00a-11:45a & 1:00p-3:45p. (Fridays: 9:00-3:00p). Teen Scene : Children completing 6th grade to completing 8th grade. Mon- day-Friday 9:00a-3:00p.

C.I.T. PROGRAM: (Counselor-In-Training). Interested applicants must be completing 9th grade. Limited space is available. Obtain a C.I.T. registration form at the office or online. An interview is required, and placement is based on qualifications.

C.I.T. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 5/15.

PROGRAM FEE: $60/camper (No early discount available).

(For Elem., Teen Scene, & C.I.T. program).

Registration: Starts May 1st at the Recreation Office ONLY.

Physician information and emergency numbers are important, as well as knowledge of child’s health history, emergency numbers and paren- tal signatures.

JUNIOR SCIENTISTS CAMP

Come join us for some fun in the sun, as we explore the wonders and excitement of science exploration! Children will participate in a variety of summer themed science activities, experiments, and team challenges as we explore biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, technology, and green science!

“Little Bakers” CAMP

Your child will have a blast as we explore various techniques of baking, decorating, and making creative and delicious treats! We will be working on everything from learning how to measure, mix, and bake to exploring fun decorating techniques that will transform our cupcakes and mini-cakes into edible works of art! All NEW projects for returning students! Ages: 5-10. Fee: $175

Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO®

HIGH-FLYING AVIATION CAMP:

Our High-Flying Aviation Camp will include action packed indoor/outdoor flight days, taking you to new heights as you let your models take to the skies and see the wonder of flight in action! Each camper will have an aircraft building & learning experience from scratch. Campers will take home at least 8-10 differ- ent hand-built working models, all while learning more about aviation’s rich science and history. Grades: K-8

Dates: August 20, 21, 22. Time: 9:00a-12:00p. Fee: $110. Dates: August 20, 21, 22, 23. Time: 1:00p-4:00p. Fee: $140.

“Teen Swims” at the

Did you know that we have the “hottest place to cool off” for Resident Teens this summer?
There will be a DJ to play the hottest tunes while you take a swim to cool off! Come on down and see what you have been missing!

“Teen Swims” are open on WEDNESDAYS during the summer months from 8:30PM to 10:30PM beginning June 27th through August 29th.

Teen Swims are offered to all Resident Teens, completing 5th thru 8th grades. Cost: $5. (Student I.D. is required)

MAKING MAGIC Mini-Camp: You can leave the lazy days of summer behind by learning to make things vanish and float in the air, you will also learn what it takes to become a magician, and create an entire magic show that you get to keep. Magic tricks and supplies are provided for every camper and are yours to keep at the end of the camp. For Grades K-5.
