Westfield School Hosts First Alumni Day

Compass Schoolhouse offered alums a chance to reconnect Friday.

WESTFIELD, NJ - Compass SchoolHouse held its first annual Alumni Day on Friday, Feb. 15 at Compass SchoolHouse, 125 Elmer Street.

More than 50 people participated in the event, where previous Compass students, now in Kindergarten and older, were invited to visit their former teachers and classrooms to take part in class activities, while parents socialized with other alumni families in the school’s community room.

“Compass Schoolhouse’s first ever Alumni Day was a wonderful opportunity for students to rediscover their preschool alma mater, reconnect with former classmates and teachers in their old classrooms and for us to celebrate Compass Schoolhouse’s real crowning achievement -- our alumni students,” said Director of Compass SchoolHouse Sue DeWeever. “Preschool is a pivotal time in a young child’s life and to give them a chance to revisit the place where they embarked on their first educational and social experiences was incredibly special.”

Since many local public schools are closed on Friday and Compass was in session, organizers said it was an ideal time for families to visit former Compass teachers and friends.

“We all loved seeing many familiar faces who have grown up so much in the past few years,” DeWeever said.
