Westfield Students Take Learning Out Of Doors
The Learning Garden gave students the chance to see nature in action.
WESTFIELD, NJ - Jefferson School students were able to take experiential learning outdoors for the dedication of the Outdoor Classroom and Learning Center last month.
Principal Dr. Susie Hung thanked Jefferson dads John Drennan, Thomas Nastasi, Marc Nissim, Christopher Thornton and all those who contributed to the yearlong project.
"It really shows the power of community," said Thornton who added that 260 lbs. of fresh produce has already been harvested since last spring with 172 lbs. donated to a local food bank. The produce planted and harvested by students includes kale, asparagus, tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, string beans, and zucchini.
