Westfield Teachers, Students Cut Hair For A Cause

More than 70 inches of hair were donated to Maggie's Wigs For Kids.

WESTFIELD, NJ - Seven students, two teachers, and four hair stylists recently came together to donate more than 70 inches of hair to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids, a Michigan-based non-profit organization that provides wigs and support services at no charge to children and young adults experiencing hair loss due to cancer, burns, and other disorders.

While many hair donation organizations request a 10-12 inch minimum, Maggie’s accepts hair donations of seven inches or longer. The June 17 event was organized by Roosevelt Intermediate School teachers Marissa Conneely and Pamela Friedman. The students donating their hair ranged in age from 10-15 and included Micaela Beltran, Anna Garretson, Delilah Harrington, Maura Hyland, Grace Kilbourn, Adison Marshall, and Lucy Vanecek.

RIS social studies teacher Coneely and World Languages teacher Daisy Lennox joined the students in cutting their locks. Stylists from the Guillotine Salon and Spa of Westfield donating their time and expertise were Carissa Bowden, Jennifer Martinez, Maria Walick, and owner Lynne Fitzpatrick.
