Westfield Teen Killed In Fall From Catskills Waterfall

The 17-year-old was hiking with friends and relatives.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A Westfield teenager died after he fell off a waterfall in the Catskills Wednesday, New York State Police reported.

Ezra Kennedy, 17 was hiking with a group of relatives and friends when he reached the top of the lower section of the Kaaterskill Falls in the Town of Hunter, Greene County, N.Y.

As Kennedy neared the edge, he lost his footing on the wet rock causing him to accidentally slip and fall approximately 50 feet to the rocks below, according to the preliminary investigation by police.

He was found dead near the base of the falls and was extricated from the scene by members of the Twin Clove Rope Rescue Team.

State Police do not suspect any foul play and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Responding unit included The New York State Police, The Town of Hunter Police, New York State Forest Rangers, Tannersville Fire Dept and Greene County Paramedics.
