Woman Hit By Westfield Driver Passes Away

A Garwood woman was crossing the street last week when she was hit by a car, according to Garwood police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — An 81-year-old woman from Garwood has passed away following a crash in which a Westfield driver hit her while she was crossing the street in Garwood, police say.

At around 6:15 p.m. last Wednesday, a Ford Explorer driven by a 61-year-old woman from Westfield was heading southbound on Walnut Street when she hit Catherine Flint on Walnut Street near the intersection of Second Avenue, said Garwood Police Chief James Wright.

Officers and the Garwood First Aid Squad arrived to help Flint, but she was later pronounced dead.

The driver was in the process of calling 911 when police arrived and remained on the scene.
