$99K Grant Will Aid NJ Residents Who Are Deaf, Hard Of Hearing

The largest disability services nonprofit in the state will get a big boost to help increase access to mental health/health care services.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The largest disability services nonprofit in the state will get a $99,000 boost to help increase access to mental health and health care services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing in Essex County.

Easterseals NJ received a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. The funds will be geared toward identifying and engaging underserved residents who need navigation assistance with health care visits, according to a news release.

The project goal is to enrich the lives of the deaf and hard of hearing with services that include ASL-fluent counseling and case management staff, the release stated.

“The deaf and hard of hearing community are too often-overlooked,” Easterseals NJ CEO and President Brian Fitzgerald said. “This significant grant shows they are not forgotten and gives us the opportunity to provide them with services.”
