Rotary Welcomes Two New Members

The West Orange Rotary Club welcomes two new members, Cynthia Hadley-Bailey and W. Fred Jenkins, Jr.

In November 2011, the Rotary Club of West Orange added two new members to it's rank.

Cynthia Hadley-Bailey was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. A product of New York City schools and a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice she earned an Associate of Arts and Bachelor Degree in Community Relations. While attending college, Cynthia worked as a consumer advocate for the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs.

Upon graduation, Teamsters Local 237 employed her as paralegal. She later was appointed as a police officer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, completing 27 years of service, of which 18 years were as a detective. Having many assignments in her career, Cynthia’s highlight was assisting with the FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force in the investigations of the 1993 and 2001 bombings of the World Trade Center.

Cynthia has served as Commissioner and Chairperson of the West Orange Human Relations Commission and was instrumental in coordinating the Conversation on Race dialogue in West Orange.

She is a resident of West Orange since 1989: married to Warren Bailey; two daughters Vanessa attending KEAN University and Jessica attending Essex County Community College.

Fred Jenkins is Director, Diversity Management for Verizon Communications Telecom and Business Organization. In this role, Jenkins is responsible for developing and executing the global diversity strategy and programs that enable Verizon to leverage its most valuable resource - its employees - by cultivating an inclusive, customer focused, results driven culture that effectively utilizes the diverse skills, talents and experiences of all employees.

A strategic turnaround specialist, Jenkins has more than 28 years of experience in strategic planning, human resources and diversity management, team building including executive communications; and regularly conducts leadership, team building and strategic alliances workshops for Verizon’s Employee Resource Groups, local churches and non-profit organizations.

He also serves as a board member of the Michael D. Jones, Jr. Foundation, an organization that provides academic scholarships to gifted students and the House of Love Soup Kitchen, providing meals to those in need of a helping hand.

Jenkins is a graduate of Middlebury College (Vermont) where he received a B. A. in Religious Studies and the Johnson School of Management, Cornell University where he earned his Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. He is also a certified facilitator, a Toastmaster’s CTM and a graduate of the Boardroom Bound Boardology Institute.

He lives in West Orange with his wife Sophia, and is the proud father of four children; David, Tiffany and the “2-Live Crew” — Jonathan and Simon.
