David Mebane, General Counsel, RWJBarnabas Health, Named General Counsel of the Year in Health Care by NJBIZ
Mr. Mebane drove the large transaction to merge Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health, which was consummated in April 2016.

David Mebane, General Counsel of RWJBarnabas Health, was named General Counsel of the Year in Health Care by NJBIZ, New Jersey’s leading business journal. This prestigious honor was announced at the 2017 NJBIZ Breakfast Awards Ceremony on May 19, 2017 at The Palace in Somerset.
Mr. Mebane drove the large transaction to merge Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health, which was consummated in April 2016. He was also instrumental in creating the Saint Barnabas Health Care System in 1996. He is currently responsible for the System’s legal work, insurance and compliance and is president of its captive insurance company.
RWJBarnabas Health is the state’s largest, most comprehensive health care system, the second largest private employer and one of the largest systems in the United States. The System consists of 11 acute care hospitals, affiliated facilities and a medical group of 1,000 physicians.

Mr. Mebane’s career with the System spans almost 26 years. Prior to his present position he served as General Counsel for Barnabas Health, Inc. from 2014 to 2016, and as Senior Vice President for Legal Affairs/Chief Legal Officer from 1996 to 2014. Previously he was Vice President/Corporate Counsel for Community/Kimball Health Care System from 1991 to 1996. He also clerked for the Hon. Herman Michels, in the NJ Superior Court, Appellate Division, and practiced at Lowenstein Sandler and Brach Eichler, P.C.

Mr. Mebane received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and his law degree from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the American Corporate Counsel Association.
Mr. Mebane and his family are residents of Westfield, New Jersey.
