Editor's Notebook: Patch Celebrates its 100th Site Launch

Morristown site puts hyper-local news organization into new realm

It takes me about 50 seconds to count to 100. It took Patch almost two years. But, we made it.

Patch was founded in New York City February 2008 and its first sites launched simultaneously in Maplewood, South Orange and Millburn-Short Hills in February 2009.

Now, with the launch of Morristown at site 100, Patch enters the realm of a much-larger news organization. One whose mobile newsroom competes with major metro dailies throughout the nation.

It's not all about New Jersey, though, but the eight other states that Patch has planted its seeds: Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia. And soon-to-be Washington, D.C.

The hyper-local coverage offered and the increasing popularity in an unknown future of the news, makes Patch on a venture beyond 100 and soon-to-be 1,000.

Patch on.
