Essex County Cops Offer $5,000 Reward For Info On Newark Homicide

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable are asking for assistance from the public in identifying a person of interest believed to have information regarding the homicide of Agostinoh Sousa, 40, of Newark.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Crimestoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

According to prosecutors, Sousa was fatally shot on July 26 of this year in the 100 block of Walnut Street in Newark. The victim was walking to the store in the early morning hours when he was shot during an apparent robbery.

The suspects, who were using a dark colored minivan, fled the scene. Surveillance photographs captured a male walking away from the van which had been set on fire. The torched van was discovered on Seabury Street in Newark.

At this time, the person in the photo is a person of interest, not a suspect.
