Driver Charged After Colliding With NJ Transit Bus In Newark: Police
Police charged an Essex County man with careless driving and other traffic violations; 13 people were injured in the crash.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Thirteen people were hurt when a bus carrying 29 people and a car collided in Essex County Monday, officials said.
A NJ Transit bus and a silver 1996 Honda Accord collided at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Market Street around 4:33 a.m., causing damage to the front driver's sides of both vehicles, the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.
The bus was occupied by passengers at the time of the collision, and the Honda Accord was occupied by the driver and one passenger, Newark police stated.

"No serious injuries" were reported, and all of the injured were transported to University Hospital for treatment, police said.
Newark police said that the Honda’s driver, a 19-year-old Orange man, was issued summonses for the following traffic violations: careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to exhibit license, failure to exhibit registration and being an unlicensed driver.

The vehicle’s owner was also written a summons for allowing the vehicle to be operated by an unlicensed driver, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
The bus was heading eastbound on West Market Street when the car turned in front of it from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to ABC7.
Two people were injured in the car and taken to the hospital, while 11 passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries, according to ABC7.
NJ Transit said the bus was the Route 34 line from Montclair to Penn Station in Newark.
