In Essex County: Pregnant N.J. Woman Shot, Companion Dies
The 9-month pregnant woman and her companion were shot shortly after midnight, authorities say.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County authorities are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and a pregnant woman injured in Newark, prosecutors say.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a nine-month-pregnant woman and her companion, Sirree Samod Scales, 26, of Raleigh, North Carolina, were shot in the 100 block of Seymour Avenue in Newark around midnight on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Newark woman sustained non-fatal injuries, authorities said. Scales was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m.
