Essex County Sheriff Hosts Thanksgiving Food Drive
The sheriff's Thanksgiving convoy made stops at scores of locations in Essex County.
From the Essex County Sheriff: 20 pick-up trucks, SUVs and vans were loaded to the brim with four tons of bulk foodstuffs, hundreds of turkeys and holiday meals by Essex County sheriff’s officers at emergency management headquarters in West Orange for delivery on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as part of the sheriff’s 2016 "Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Needy and Homeless."
The sheriff’s Thanksgiving convoy made stops at scores of Essex County soup kitchens, food pantries, social service agencies, homeless shelters, houses of worship and schools to insure the availability of Thanksgiving meals and to stock the food shelves for the coming winter months.
“This project is a labor of love for the members of our department,” Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. “This is our opportunity to share with our less fortunate neighbors.”
