Join the Legacy Project this Saturday, May 7th, to hear John Atlas speak about his work as a public interest lawyer, writer, and community organizer in New Jersey and about his new book, Seeds of Change: The Story of ACORN, America’s Most Controversial Antipoverty Organizing Group.
Part of the Legacy Project's mission is to collect and make available stories from the community development field. This session will be recorded and made into a podcast. Participants can come early for a class on how to make your own podcast!
John Atlas was the Executive Director of Passaic County Legal Aid for 22 years. He is the founder and current president of the National Housing Institute, which publishes Shelterforce magazine. His work has appeared in numerous places including The Huffington Post, The Star Ledger, The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Tikkun, The Nation, Dissent, New Jersey Reporter, Shelterforce, and Social Policy. His book is based on his eyewitness reporting. It goes beyond today’s headlines and controversies tracing ACORN’s history, what happened in ACORN’s massive voter registration drives, why it triggered an unrelenting attack by Fox News and the Republicans, and how ACORN confronted its internal divisions and scandals; and what will happen in the future.
