New Moms - Connect & Learn

New mothers with babies birth to six months will have a chance to connect with peers, to share their experiences and questions, to learn from early childhood research and each other, and to explore their Jewish heritage at the First Steps Group for New Moms and Babies.  Sponsored by Jewish Family Service of MetroWest and the JCC MetroWest Parent Place, the First Steps Group begins on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the JCC, located at 760 Northfield Avenue in West Orange.  The small, weekly group continues through May 2.

Each week, participants will discuss topics such as establishing eating and sleeping patterns, crying, temperament, attachment and changing relationships with friends, family and partners and the transition to motherhood. They will also think about ways to bring family history, Jewish heritage, customs and backgrounds into their relationship with the baby and their new family.

JFS Coordinator of Child and Adolescent Services P Stern, LCSW, MPH, will facilitate the First Steps Group and specializes in working with infants, toddlers and their families.  With educators from The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life, mothers will have an opportunity to explore Jewish themes and discuss creating traditions for their own family in appropriate sessions.
