How Much State School Aid For West Orange? NJ Releases Latest Totals

Experts say that a decrease in school aid – or even a flat number – can trigger an increase in property taxes for a town's homeowners.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange's schools are in line to get a 6 percent increase in funding under the latest state budget.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill's first proposed budget includes $12.4 billion for aid to the state's 574 public school districts. The New Jersey Department of Education released anticipated 2026-27 state aid figures for school districts last week, including West Orange. West Orange is in line to get $34,532,959 in state aid, up from last year’s $32,578,262. That funding is earmarked as follows:

  • Transportation Aid – $3,393,780
  • Special Education Aid – $10,485,556
  • Security Aid – $2,157,934
