Infant, Four Others Killed In Essex County, N.J. House Fire

A 6-week-old infant was one of five people killed in an Essex County house fire Sunday that left three houses uninhabitable and spread to neighboring dwellings, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The fire, which was reported at 6:08 a.m., drew about 80 firefighters from seven fire districts who were still battling the fire during the afternoon, battling against a heavy wind that kept the blaze alive, according to The New York Times.

The flames projected from a house at 16 N. 17th St. and spread to the two homes on either side, one of which was vacant; The one occupant in the other house escaped, according to News12.

The victims were identified as: Alice Horton, 79; Breiona Love, 20; Randy Horton, 56; Ronnie Horton 60; and 6-week-old Lanore Carter-Love, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information will be released when it becomes available, according to the ECPO.
