Kindergarten Presentation Draws Hundreds

Presentation provided information for new and prospective parents at Washington Elementary School Tuesday.

Hundreds of excited parents filled the Washington Elementary School All-Purpose Room Tuesday night in a full-day Kindergarten program presentations provided to new and prospective parents to the West Orange School District whose children are turning 5-years-old on or before Oct. 1, 2013.

The presentation included information on the district’s commitment to music, art and physical education at every grade level, and academic and social readiness for the earliest learners.

Washington Elementary orchestra members performed for the audience. Principals from many of the district’s seven neighborhood elementary schools were in attendance to answer questions.

Parent questions ranged from the district’s nutritional program, hot lunches and breakfasts that are provided daily, to transportation services, and security and emergency protocols. The school district provides busing to most schools and has the highest level of security controls for school buildings throughout West Orange.

“The kindergarten presentation offers parents and guardians an opportunity to meet some of the principals of the elementary schools, receive information about what children do in a full-day kindergarten program, and gain an understanding of the necessary steps to successfully ready children for this educational milestone,” Interim Superintendent of Schools James O’Neill said. “We were thrilled with the turnout and expect more of the same tonight.”
