Medical Struggles Can’t Dampen Creative Spirit Of Young NJ Author

EAST ORANGE, NJ — Most kids who are Trinity Davis-Floyd’s age are busy reading children’s books. But this 8-year-old Make-A-Wish Foundation patient and “walking miracle” is writing them.
On Tuesday, East Orange city officials shared Davis-Floyd’s inspiring story, which includes her recently published book, “Trinity and Sockland.” The book – which was illustrated by Shekinah Davida Baxter – was written to help other children cope with severe health conditions such as Tetralogy of Fallot, which Davis-Floyd has had since birth. The disease has already caused her to undergo two open-heart surgeries, and she is facing another soon.
But Davis-Floyd’s medical challenges haven’t damped her creative spirit, which is soaring high – as evidenced by her charming foray into the world of writing. Here's the description of her book, as seen on Amazon:

“Trinity, a bright energetic, creative minded young girl, escapes to a place she calls ‘Sockland.’ Sockland is an imaginary magical world where all of the lost socks go. When Trinity is there, it's a place where she and her friends are safe to play and have fun together. Trinity learns how to deal with problems from Mr. Bricks.”
East Orange Mayor Ted Green said that he was “taken aback” by the young author’s determination when she approached him with a signed copy of her book at the city’s recent Leap Into Spring celebration.
Green invited Davis-Floyd to visit City Hall so they could get better acquainted. It was a big hit with the youth, who now plans to make the trip the focus of her next book.
