It was a Thursday just like any other, when “every parent's nightmare” became a reality for Jamie Moore of East Orange.
Moore’s 14-year-old daughter, Jashyah, set out on the morning of Oct. 14 to make a quick trip to Poppie's Deli at 520 Central Avenue, not far from their home. Her mission? To find a card that she lost on her way to the store.

She didn’t come back.
Now – nearly a month later – the teen is still missing. And it’s breaking her mom’s heart, she says.

“As a mother, there are no words that can describe what my family and I are going through,” Moore wrote on a GoFundMe campaign, which has been launched to help finance the ongoing search.
“It’s hard to eat, sleep or even function with every day that passes,” Moore continued. “I just want my baby back home with her loving family laughing playing her PS4 with her little brother.”
A GoFundMe spokesperson told Patch the campaign is verified, and that all funds will be distributed to Jamie Moore. Learn more or make a donation here.
East Orange police, the FBI and the NJ State Police are working in collaboration to help find the missing teen and bring her safely home. Last week, Mayor Ted Green, the East Orange City Council and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi held a news conference about Moore (watch the video below).
According to police, Moore is 5 feet, 5 inches and weighs about 135 pounds. She was last seen wearing khaki pants, a black jacket and black boots.
Last weekend, authorities searched a pond in Monte Irvin Orange Park, close to where Moore was seen on Oct. 14, but didn’t find anything, police said. The search continues, according to East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi.
“Using all of our resources and partnerships, we will continue our laser-focused search on bringing Jashyah home,” Bindi said.
