ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County is canceling its mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the week, but there are still places where people can get their first shot or a booster, officials say.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. posted the following announcement on social media Tuesday:

“The Essex County mobile vaccination locations have been cancelled this week. They will not be held Tuesday, September 6 thru Friday, September 9. Vaccines are available at the Sears in Livingston.”

At the peak of the pandemic, the county ran five vaccine centers in Livingston (at the former Sears building in the Livingston Mall), Newark (at Essex County College and the Donald M. Payne Sr. School of Technology), West Caldwell (at Essex County West Caldwell School of Technology) and West Orange (at the former Kmart building on Prospect Avenue).

As more Essex County residents got vaccinated, reducing demand, the county has closed some of these centers. Currently, the only one open is the site at the Sears building at the Livingston Mall, 112 Eisenhower Parkway. Read More: Essex County Moves COVID Vaccine, Test Site (See Updated Locations)

Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available. Appointments can be made by visiting www.EssexCOVID.org or calling 973-877-8456, and are needed for children 6 months to 5-years-old and for people seeking Omicron booster shots. Appointments aren’t needed for others.

There are no out-of-pocket costs to receive vaccines. Residents will be asked to provide their medical insurance information so Essex County can bill the insurance company $40 for each dose of the vaccine. For those without insurance, the cost of the vaccine will be covered by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Funds.

The county also continues to run its mobile vaccine and testing unit, which has been holding clinics at the municipal buildings in Irvington, Newark, Orange and East Orange. Prior to being canceled this week, the mobile unit was scheduled to visit Newark on Tuesday, Orange on Wednesday, Irvington on Thursday and East Orange on Friday.

There are also many other ways to get a vaccine if you live in the area. New Jersey has cleared the way for vaccination sites across the state, including Federally Qualified Health Centers, supermarkets, pharmacies and doctor's offices. Some are accepting appointments or have residency requirements, but others do not. Visit COVIDvaccine.nj.gov to preregister. You can find a list of locations giving shots in Essex County here.
