Now That's a Rap: Teens Learn Ways of Music

Township public library offers weekly youth classes

About one dozen kids brought music to West Orange Public library Monday evening as they gathered with social artist Kathy Moser to create their own song.

"We're going to write, rehearse and record an original song with these teenagers in two hours," said Moser. "It's crazy, but it works every time."

Moser said the skills the kids learned, will help build their artistic repertoire.

"We work on the creative process and how you go from no idea to a sort of OK idea to a good idea," she said. "We're going to work on repetition about when you're trying to do something, especially when they write a rhyme."

The two-hour event stimulated minds and helped the class come together for a song that now plays like any other ballad. As they say in the music business, cut a record.
