RWJBarnabas Health Will Cut 79 Employees In NJ This Spring

WEST ORANGE, NJ — RWJBarnabas Health will be parting ways with dozens of employees in the coming months, although most of them were aware their jobs were “time limited,” the company says.

RWJBarnabas Health, which has a headquarters in West Orange, was recently listed on a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) advisory on the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development website.

WARN notices offer protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closings and mass layoffs.

According to the notice, RWJBarnabas Health is planning to cut 79 employees between March 31 and April 5.

A spokesperson for RWJBarnabas Health told Patch that the majority of the positions being eliminated – 74 of them – were “time-limited” information technology training job functions.

“The employees in these roles were well aware they would be sunset once the job requirements were fulfilled,” they said. “The remainder of the positions were due to the closure of an urgent care center.”

RWJBarnabas Health runs more than a dozen hospitals across New Jersey, and treats more than three million patients per year.
