Firefighters said the blaze started on the second floor of the building, located on Hollywood Avenue, around 7:40 p.m. and was contained a couple of hours later, according to nj.com.

As first responders arrived they discovered an adult with second to third degree burns by the front door - another resident was treated for smoke inhalation.

A bedridden woman and five children were among some of the residents who safety escaped the building, according to NBC 40.

Cold weather conditioned caused trouble for firemen who slipped and fell as they battled the fire, 7 Online reports.
