Shauger Matching Groves Scholarship Donations Through 2021

The Shauger Group (TSG) and the Shauger family are proud to announce they will match all donations made to the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship between now and the end of 2021, up to $12,500. The gesture comes after the Shaugers learned the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship received a $25,000 donation from the estate of a parishioner of West Orange’s Our Lady of Lourdes R. C. Church—the Shaugers’ hope is that any end-of-the-year donations made to the scholarship, along with the Shaugers’ match, will bring an additional $25,000 to the scholarship as well.

“Timmy touched so many lives in West Orange—it’s only fitting to keep his memory alive with the scholarship,” said Donald Shauger, Executive Vice President of TSG. “Lisa and I were so moved by this donation that, from now until the end of the year, our family is proud to match any Groves Scholarship donations up to $12,500. This way, our $12,500 donation could be $25,000.”

The Shaugers founded the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship in 2014 with the West Orange Scholarship Fund (WOSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. The scholarship honors the memory of former West Orange police officer Timothy Groves, a friend of the Shaugers who passed away in 2013 from cancer. The scholarship recognizes students who, like Timothy Groves, are committed to philanthropy and volunteerism, or who demonstrate an interest in the area of law enforcement or criminal justice.

In a message to Reverend Jim Ferry, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, and Jim Quinn, Treasurer of the WOSF, Shauger expressed his gratitude for the estate donation made to the scholarship.

“I know Timmy is looking down, saying ‘thank you’ and ‘there is no place like West Orange,’” said Shauger.

“Father Jim told Jim Quinn he was so impressed by what the scholarship has done—he knew this would be a great use of this money,” Shauger added. “I am over the moon knowing how many students will be helped by this donation. As Jim Quinn said, it’s a gift that keeps giving and keeping Tim Groves’ memory alive.”

To date, 61 students have been awarded the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship. Each year, the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship is awarded to seniors at West Orange High School on West Orange Senior Awards Night.

In addition to their forthcoming matching contribution, the Shaugers also made another recent special donation to the scholarship: they donated $10,000 in 2020 in memory of all West Orange residents who have passed away from COVID-19.
