Snow Day For West Orange Schools On Friday, Including Virtual
West Orange School Official: "Starting the school day at the normal times would be "problematic to say the least ... and unsafe."
WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The West Orange Public School District will be closed Friday, Jan. 7 for an emergency snow day. That includes all activities and instruction, including virtual instruction, administrators said.

A district official released the following statement about the closure:

"The timing of the snowfall coinciding with the morning commute combined with already depleted staffing in the classroom, transportation, and buildings and grounds department as well as the township departments, would make starting the school day at the normal times problematic to say the least and unsafe. As we are already operating in half-day schedules, a delayed opening is not an available option. I imagine what may be top of mind is with regard to the district’s expenditure of its three planned emergency snow days. Please rest assured, that contingency planning is underway in order to avoid, at all costs, the utilization of any of the spring break days for any future snow days called for the remainder of the winter. I’ll provide some additional detail with regard to these plans in tomorrow’s community update."
