SUV With Dead Woman's Ashes Disappears In Essex County: Reports

Have you seen a 1999 Jeep Cherokee? It may contain a deceased woman's ashes.

East Orange, NJ – Police are investigating an Essex County woman’s claims that her SUV – which contained her deceased mother’s ashes – has disappeared from her East Orange home.

The woman reportedly told authorities that the non-operational 1999 Jeep Cherokee was parked near her 15th Street home for about a year.

City officials said that the vehicle was removed between 3 p.m. on March 28 and 7:30 a.m. on March 29, but that the police report doesn’t mention ashes, NJ.com stated.

The East Orange resident told NJ News 12 that she thought the car would be a safe place to store her mother’s remains.

She believes the car may have been stolen for parts, NJ.com reported.
