EAST ORANGE, NJ — A NJ Transit train struck a male on the track near the East Orange station on Monday evening in an incident that officials labeled a “trespasser fatality,” authorities say.

NJ Transit officials said that the fatality involved Train #441, which left out of the Hoboken station. The incident temporarily suspended service on the Morris/Essex line between Newark Broad Street and Millburn in both directions, officials said.

As of Monday night, it wasn’t known if the impact was the cause of death or if the man suffered some other injury before being hit, a NJ Transit official told NJ.com.
