WEST ORANGE, NJ — In 2022, the West Orange Town Council’s votes were notable for “what they did not accomplish” – especially in an election year. That was the charge from Our Green West Orange, which recently released its annual report card that grades council members on their voting records.

The nonprofit advocacy group – which says that it doesn’t endorse political candidates – released its latest report card in late October, a few weeks before the 2022 general election. Read More: West Orange Election Results: Mayor, Council, School Board (Updated)

The group initially graded the five current council members: Cindy Matute-Brown, Susan McCartney, Michelle Casalino, Tammy Williams and Bill Rutherford. However, noting that three of the council members are running for mayor this year, they released 2018-2020 grades for the fourth mayoral candidate, former councilman Joe Krakoviak, in an update on Nov. 3.

“2022 was a year of little advancement in quality-of-life measures for residents by our West Orange Town Council,” the group added. “Perhaps we need some fresh voices who don’t just give us election-year rhetoric about our taxes and environment, but act.”
