West Orange High School Orchestra Plays Carnegie Hall Nov. 28

On Friday November 28th at 7:30PM the West Orange High School Orchestra will take the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Producers Concert Productions, organizer of numerous Carnegie Hall events and competitions has honored the West Orange High School Orchestra with this opportunity for its ‘exceptional level of musicianship.” The West Orange High School Orchestra was recognized for its performances at the Band and Orchestra Festival at Avery Fischer Hall, and its debut performance at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center during prior seasons.

“Each year I try to explore activities which give our students exciting opportunities to perform in venues outside of the school community,” said Dr. Elena Peres, WOHS Orchestra Director. “It is a great honor for any musician to perform on the stage of Carnegie Hall, the world’s most famous musical institution and our students take this responsibility very seriously.”

Eighty students in grades 9-12 will perform with the orchestra and have been diligently practicing together during lunch periods and after school. The concert will also feature a performance by Brazilian Youth Orchestra, Orquestra Instituto GPA, as well as a Hungarian violin virtuoso Bela Horvath.

“The orchestra program at West Orange High School has such amazing opportunities for its students. Being able to perform at Carnegie Hall is such an honor, especially since this is my last year with this school,” said senor Anishka Jean.

“When I heard that we would be playing at Carnegie Hall, I was ecstatic- what an opportunity! While practicing hard, we all know how amazing and life-changing this will be,” senior Hannah Cohn added.
